“Athak Foundation has undertaken the responsibility to address the issue of plastic pollution head on. Athak works tirelessly to reduce the average plastic footprint per person by reducing the quantum of plastic in circulation, spreading awareness regarding the overuse of plastic to curb its usage and the effective adoption of sustainable solution to tackle the menace of plastic.”
Athak Foundation is dedicated to sustainable waste management, with a strong focus on plastic waste disposal and environmental awareness. Over the past Three years, Athak has partnered with organizations such as Attero for electronic waste collection and ensures the safe handling of glass waste.
Athak Foundation also organizes collection drives for items like clothes and toys, which are donated to Vanvasi communities in rural Maharashtra. In collaboration with the Hariyali Group, Athak facilitates Nirmalya waste collection for composting.
January 2026 , marking Athak’s 100th garbage collection success, was highly encouraging. The plastic collection drive also saw strong participation, with many citizens responsibly bringing flowers in paper bags. The collected Nirmalya was transported to the Hariyali site at Anand Nagar, where it was layered over dry leaves to support natural composting.
Electronic and glass waste collections received a positive response from Mulundkars, as always. Athak remains committed to responsible waste handling, reducing landfill burden, and promoting sustainable practices.
Our ultimate goal is to create a Zero Garbage City, where all waste is processed in an eco-friendly manner. Through these initiatives, Athak Foundation continues to build a cleaner, greener future by fostering community participation and turning waste challenges into opportunities for positive change. Thank you to everyone involved.
Plastic is among the most popular and important materials used in the modern world. However, its popularity is part of the huge problem and reason why plastics should be recycled. Instead of throwing them away polluting the land and our water bodies, we can optimize the lifespan of plastics by recycling and reusing them. We congratulate Athak Foundation for their efforts in this field and assure our continuous support for their mission.
Plastic has come a long way from being a boon for the humanity to becoming a monster now. Media has been prominently highlighting this issue resulting in increased awareness in the society, but the absence of any proper recycling method has left the masses blindsided against the fight against this menace. I was thoroughly impressed with the way Athak Foundation has dedicated their focus and their enthusiasm to the development of a solution to contain the issue of plastic and helps conserve our ecosystem. They have demonstrated their commitment to the cause through their work and are not just another arm-chair activist.
The people of Mumbai are no strangers to the disastrous effects of plastic on our lives. Athak Foundation has come as a movement from the masses and it shows the kind of ideal citizenry that we need in the country. I would urge every citizen to join them and support them in their activities to create a better world for our future generations to come.
